The house lies about a mile and a
half on the Craignure side of Bunessan, on a small country road leading
down from the A849 to the sea. If you have an O.S. 1:50000 Landranger
map, sheet 48, the grid reference is 404236.

It is the croft house which was built
in the early 1800s by the Black family after they were evicted from the
island of Ulva during the infamous Highland Clearances. David Livingston’s
family (yes, we do mean the explorer!) who were neighbours of the Blacks
in Ulva, were also evicted at that time, moving to Blantyre. The
house has been recently restored. We have tried to retain much of its
original character, while providing a high standard of comfort.
The situation is sunny and sheltered,
standing in its own fenced grounds and surrounded by open moorland or
fields. The sea shore is only a hundred yards down the road. It isn’t
sandy, but the rock pools are fun, and there is lots of wildlife to be
seen, including seals and otters.
